LESSONS

Stretching And Basic Exercise
ShinKenDo JuJutsu classes are open to everyone, regardless of age, gender, or physical condition. Our training environment is supportive, structured, and designed to allow students to progress safely and confidently.
Each class begins with careful stretching and basic conditioning exercises to warm the body and prevent injury. This makes it perfectly acceptable for students to attend class directly after work or school, without the need for prior preparation.
Following the warm-up, students move on to fundamental regimental techniques and theory, which are designed to develop coordination, balance, awareness, and concentration.
Students are then paired and introduced to a series of pre-arranged attack-and-defence drills. These drills are demonstrated by the instructor and then practised repeatedly to build understanding and confidence. Training includes:
-
Defence against strikes
-
Defence against grabs and holds
-
Defence against knife attacks
-
Escapes from standing and ground-based holds
As students progress, they move on to syllabus-based training, including:
-
Restraint techniques
-
Knife defence
-
Joint locks
-
Securing and pinning techniques
Our Philosophy On Self Defence
Self-defence is not fighting. For this reason, we do not fight in ShinKenDo JuJutsu. Our techniques are focused on teaching individuals how to defend themselves appropriately for each specific situation, using control, awareness, and efficiency rather than aggression.
Because of this philosophy, students can feel safe and comfortable training in our dojo.
We are proud to have a dojo that is balanced in male and female membership, reflecting the inclusive and practical nature of our training.
You can only experience the joy of training and meeting students by taking part on our class.
No one will frighten or scare you. Everyone is a normal member of society who seeks Japanese JuJutsu training for their own purpose.
Advance Training And Class Conclusion
Toward the end of each class:
-
Lower-grade students take part in free practice, responding to a series of controlled attacks described by the instructor.
-
Senior and advanced students perform what we call UKE and TORI self-defence (attacker and defender). At this level, students are able to defend themselves against any attack delivered by their partner, demonstrating true self-defence rather than combat or sparring.
This represents the highest level of defensive understanding within our system.
Classes conclude with conditioning and warm-down exercises, followed by internal breathing practices designed to calm the body and relax the mind.

A Training Environment Students Enjoy
Students consistently express how much they enjoy ShinKenDo JuJutsu training. A strong indicator of a healthy and effective class is the equal participation of men and women, rather than a male-dominated environment.
ShinKenDo JuJutsu is practical, respectful, and empowering — a system of self-defence designed for real life.
